The Purity Pledge
Lancaster Baptist Church Teenagers Make a Vow to Remain Pure
Each year the teenagers of Lancaster Baptist Church are challenged to take a pledge of purity. This is a vow between the teenager and God to remain pure until their wedding day.
Despite today’s culture of immoral philosophy, God’s desire for a man and woman is to remain morally pure until marriage.
The road to impurity is traveled one
step at a time. The devil will use any
area, whether it be music, television, or
internet, to get a strong
hold in a teenager’s life.
There is no such thing as accidental purity. In the midst of incredible circumstances, Daniel maintained purity by purposing in his heart not to defile himself. The Bible says in Daniel 1:8, “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” If a teenager is to stay pure today, it must be on purpose. If we as adults are to be successful in this matter, we must also purposefully guard our hearts from the evil influences that abound today. The Bible reminds us of this in Proverbs 4:4, “He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.”
Physical, emotional, and mental purity can only be accomplished through Spirit-filled living and setting the standards high. The Bible says in James 4:7, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
This year, hundreds of teenagers boldly stood to testify of their pledge to God. Undoubtedly the devil will continue to fight these young people, but remember the words of 1 John 4:4, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Please pray for these teens that they may stand strong for the Lord throughout their lives.
