A Renewal Notice
Renewing Your Spirit in the Summer
By Terrie Chappell
As I was going through the family mail the other day, I came across a renewal notice for a magazine subscription I had been receiving over the past year. The notice warned me that my subscription was coming to an end and reminded me to renew if I wanted to continue getting the magazine for anther twelve months. As I contemplated whether or not I would renew my subscription, I realized how the summer months are very much like a “renewal notice”! Summer often provides unique blocks of time to renew different aspects of our lives.
As ladies, we must seize God-given opportunities for renewal in order to serve the Lord and others more effectively. There are many areas that require renewal from time to time.
First and foremost, we must take time to renew ourselves in the Lord and in our personal relationship with Him—spending time to read and pray and listen to His still small voice. We also need to renew physically by setting aside time to rest and be with family. Perhaps we need to take time to renew our homes by organizing a closet or trying a new recipe. The summer months also allow us to spend extra time renewing and working toward the goals we sent back in January!
So, what will you do with your summer renewal notice? Will you continue to receive all you can from God and His Word by taking the time to renew your spiritual walk with Him? Are there other areas in your life that require renewal? As we prepare for the upcoming school year and fall season, I pray that we will be diligent to heed the “renewal” before the opportunity to do so is gone! The Bibles says in Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
